How Do I Get Past A Vengeful, Blackballing Ex-friend?

by admin on December 19, 2009

Long story short: she gave me EVERY detail about her life (and all of our other friends – think: affairs, one-night stands while pregnant, mental institutions and medications, financial details)…THEN she decided to use me as a personal reference for her husband on his performance review (with the government).
The questions included several pressing ones about finances and any trouble that they were having (which I held back some, but noted a few things like bounced checks (info from a shared hair stylist), parents helping pay off loans…and I was reassured that my answers didn’t matter and that it was all kept confidential.
Lo and behold, it WASN’T kept confidential: they got a copy, and now not only won’t even speak to me (our little kids USED to be friends, so we have several shared activities), AND I’ve been blackballed from our common friends (the only people I’ve known in this small town for the few years that I’ve lived here).
The problems I can’t get around: I didn’t nothing wrong but be ethical (as one common friend noted, though, I wasn’t under oath!). I didn’t mention her personal issues that really COULD be used in blackmail. Also, the other friends are all going around thinking that this two-faced woman is just beyond reproach, while she has spilled every single secret ever spoken to her!
It upsets me that I get punished for ethics, while SHE looks lilly-white even though she’s a gossip! UGH!

shame on all of you grown women,
behaving like children!
that women is petty, and you should call and threaten her with all of the juicer gossip you could still spill,
but people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones…
anywho call her and tell her what happened,
maybe she will forgive you and everything will go back to normal,
you being more insightful of what kind of person she is,
if you don’t want her to be part of your life anymore,
then try and win your old friends back,
tell them what happened,
if they don’t accept,
you don’t want them,
make new friends,
it may seem hard,
but this is just a bump in the road =)
